*Tatanka- A Lakota word meaning “big beast” in reference to the American Bison.*

Tatanka Goods & Grooming is the brainchild of Nick Shaffer. After working in the Men’s Grooming industry for nearly a decade and working in some of the most reputable salons and barbershops in the country, touring with musical artists, and working on set with actors and athletes and all the “whose who’s”.  Nick had long felt it was time to expand the “brand” beyond just offering grooming services. Then came 2020 which flipped the world we knew upside down. Forcing us all to slow down, reprioritize and think outside the box a bit. In Mid-August of 2020 Nick found himself alone camping and enjoying some quiet time to himself in Yellowstone National Park. And this is where the light bulb went off & long time ideas slowly began to turn to reality as there was no better time than NOW. It was here that Tatanka was born.

Although we specialize in Men’s Grooming to the highest level, Tatanka aims to be a full encompassing lifestyle brand catered to the modern man. Those of us that work our tail off during the week and like to get out and get after it come the weekend. The guys who like to look sharp, yet can also find comfort being a little rough around the edges. In the future we will be launching a full line of high quality goods, accessories and lifestyle products built to withstand the test of time. And why a bison you may ask?
The imagery and symbolism of this American icon is one that is strong and timeless. And when a storm is coming a bison doesn’t just sit back and wait it out they go head on into a storm and trudge it out with the mindset to get through it quicker. They face their shit in other words. So in essence, be a bison. Be strong willed, face your fears, find comfort in the discomfort, conquer life head on. Be the beast you really are!
